GDM Calls on Deaf Communities to Reject Violence

GLOBAL DEAF MUSLIM (GDM) Calls on Deaf Communities to Reject Violence and Support its Efforts Around the World.

Since 2005, GDM has worked tirelessly to advance the rights of Deaf Muslims worldwide. Our priority is the empowerment of Deaf Muslims through educational initiatives, economic upliftment, and community building. GDM’s overall goal is to empower Deaf Muslims worldwide and ensure they have equal rights in all spheres of life. This includes access to education and religious information such as access to the Holy Qur’an. Recent events across the world have shown us how a distorted version of Islam is being used to manipulate and confuse Deaf Muslims. This is a coordinated and deliberate effort to manipulate and hijack the peaceful teachings of Islam for political gain. GDM will not allow Deaf Muslims to be indoctrinated in this way.

Sadly, in the world today, there are many who continue to misinterpret Islam ways that promote violence and destruction. Islam tells us to respect our neighbors, maintain peace, and not to hurt other people regardless of their faith, race, and gender.  The Qur’an clearly states that “…whoever kills a person…it is as if they have killed the whole of mankind; and whoever saves it, it is as if they have save the whole of mankind.” (Surah Maidah, Chapter 5, verse 32).

As Muslims, we are outraged by the brutality and menace that is being done in the name of Islam. We call on Deaf Muslims around the world to be vigilant against those who are spreading hate and violence in the name of our peaceful religion. Islam comes from the root word ‘Salam’, which means peace.  If anything that you hear about Islam is not peaceful, you should know that this is not the true Islam.

GDM is available to provide support, guidance, and advice to the Deaf Community and individuals affected by any of the issues we have spoken about.
