Nashiru Abdulai lost his hearing at nine as a result of a month long headache (Meningitis) and so made academic switch from an Arabic/English school to Savelugu School for the Deaf in Tamale/Mampong Akwapim in Accra-Ghana. Nash grew up in Ghana and came to Rochester for his college education. Br Nash graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Social Work and Master in Human Resource Development both at Rochester Institute of Technology in New York
Brother Nash chose Rochester Institute of Technology not only because of its unique academic programs but also its diversity (Deaf and Hearing students) going to classes and interacting together and Nash admires that. Nash loves to initiate conversation about Islam whenever he is with Deaf people and when he found out that many lack the concept and proper understanding of Islam like in his home country, He set about helping and eventually coined Global Deaf Muslim to help Deaf with Islamic education by having interpreters stationed at mosques. He fosters bigger ambition for the Organization aspiring to reach out to as many deaf Muslims as he can and wants to establish Islamic Center for Deaf One day.
Brother Nash possesses extensive leadership experiences having worked as Campus Safety officer at RIT, Supervisor of Dorms at Michigan School for the Deaf, Paraprofessional at Delaware School for the Deaf and Advocate with Center for Disability Rights Inc, Rochester. He also provided Sign Language and lessons on Deaf Cultures to Rochester Law Enforcement and the Police etc. Insha Allah, Br. Nash plans to work with Deaf people in developing countries.
